What size portafilter basket do I need?

Non-pressurised (single-wall) baskets, including precision baskets, rely on your grind and technique — rewarding a good grinder with better flavour and clarity.

How do I clean and maintain a portafilter basket?

Rinse it straight after use to stop coffee oils building up. Periodically soak in an espresso-machine detergent such as Cafiza or Puly Caff, then gently work the holes with a soft brush. Avoid harsh abrasive scrubbers, which can damage the finish and enlarge the holes over time.

How often should I replace my basket?

With proper care a quality basket lasts years. Daily users can typically expect several years of service, and many home users never need to replace one. Consider a new basket when the holes become damaged, enlarged or blocked in a way that cleaning can't fix, as this affects extraction.
